We Value Difference. If you #FitTheBill, join us.

In Essex Police, we have officers from all different backgrounds in a variety of roles protecting and serving the wonderfully diverse communities in Essex. Our officers are from military, retail, office and teaching backgrounds to name just a few. Whatever their background, their skills have brought something unique and valuable to their officer role. Driven by their motivation to keep people safe, our officers pride themselves on acting with integrity and honesty and are guided by a high moral compass.

Life on the beat isn’t for everyone but that doesn't mean you can't work for Essex Police. If the helmet and boots aren't up your street, life as a member of police staff just might be. Your skills, experience and expertise could be what we're looking for.

Valuing Difference

ROLES AND CAREERS

We have a wide range of different roles available at Essex Police – As a large organisation we need a huge number of different departments to keep us running on a day to day basis. This includes full time and part time employment, as well as volunteering roles.

We are looking for Police Officers to help protect the streets of Essex, and maybe even specialise in a specific department such as dog handling, firearms or becoming a detective to name just a few.

We also have a fantastic ‘Special Constabulary’ consisting of officers that are volunteers – They don’t get paid for the job! These officers have all the same powers as a regular police officer, can complete shifts around their own schedule and with a minimum of only 16 hours per month it is a great option to decide whether life as an officer is for you.

We also have staff members that answer the 999 calls – these are not officer roles. Contact Handlers and Dispatchers play a key role in the front-line response for members of the public, and answer 250,000 emergency 999 calls and 500,000 non-emergency calls on average a year.

As a Resolution Centre Investigator, you will deal with non-emergency crime received via 101 telephone calls, online reporting and from internal & external agencies. Each year, on average, the Resolution Centre Investigation Team receives 196,000 101 & Police officer telephone calls, 22,000 Online Reports and create 188,000 Investigation reports.

There are also roles in Custody as a Detention Officer. In this role you will be required to assist in the reception of detainees into custody, carry out a wide range of unsupervised duties to ensure the safety, security and hygiene of the custody environment. You will also monitor and maintain the welfare of the detainees and provide support to the Custody Officer.

There are also a number of other roles available such as being a Police Community Support Officer in your local area, admin and IT roles, and other departments such as Media and HR.

We believe Essex Police will have just the kind of role you are looking for!
