Grand Opening of the South Essex Institute of Technology
South Essex Colleges Group part of the South East Institute of technology (SEIoT) has officially opened its doors with a grand opening celebration at Thurrock College.
The institute which is part of the South East Institute of Technology (SEIoT) is collaborating with esteemed colleges, universities, and industry leaders, and proudly offers a diverse array of courses and apprenticeships meticulously tailored to propel its students into the heart of thriving industries.
Vice Principal, Innovation at SECG, Jayne Sheehan said: “We were really excited to launch the South Essex Colleges Group element of the South East Institute of Technology which is a collaboration of six FE colleges, three HEIs and employers.
“This will bring the opportunity to study Level 4 to Level 6 technical qualifications into the South East area, we are so grateful to the companies that have supported us with state-of- the-art equipment from Lucas Neulle, Fulcro, Sharp and Krober to name just a few. We are able to offer these higher qualifications at all our colleges, Engineering, Logistics and Construction at Thurrock College, Digital at our Basildon Town Centre campus, Green Technologies for EV installation and Electric/Hybrid qualifications at Stephenson Road and Health at Southend City College.
“We are really excited to be working with our partner employers including Balfour Beatty, DP World, Leonardo and Thames Freeport to be able to offer the technical skills that they require for their workforce.
“It was a great event and we look forward to welcoming employers and students into these great spaces.”
The grand opening was attended by key industry and community figures who were treated to a tour of the facility, witnessing the cutting edge premises and equipment.
The official ribbon cutting ceremony was carried out by Stephen Metcalfe, the Conservative MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock. He said: “It was absolutely fantastic to see the idea come to life and to see technical education turn into a reality. It is exciting see the investment and level of equipment, and I’m looking forward to seeing students come out with the technical skills that employers need. South East Institute of Technology offers a prosperous future for its students, businesses and ultimately the country and I can’t wait to see how it evolves.”
IoT Project Manager, Angela O'Donoghue said: “It is wonderful to see the SEIoT centre at Gray’s Campus in Thurrock opening. It is so rewarding to see the students making full use of the incredible hi-tech equipment, using the latest technologies to support and enhance their learning in the technical subjects required by employers. This is the second of six centres that will open across the South East over the next twelve months and will be a game changer in the delivery of Higher Technical education across the South East.”
The Deputy Mayor of Thurrock, Qaisar Abbas enthused: “The facilities are brilliant and I’m so pleased to see these opportunities in Thurrock. This will provide such positivity and gives huge potential to equip youngsters with the right set of tools for their futures. Businesses will benefit greatly and the students also told me how happy they are.”
